WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT
When you arrive at our office, the first thing you'll do is provide us with a short health history. This is important to ensure safe and efficient care. You can save ten minutes by downloading these forms here, and bringing them with you for your initial appointment.
All new patients are scanned with our MyoVision system on their first visit and then periodically at regular intervals to monitor spinal changes as they occur. The results will give us a few pieces of information:
First, the exact spinal level of any nerve interference will be located. Second, any spinal nerve system imbalances will be found as well as the areas of the body that are being affected. The scan will also reveal muscular imbalances along the spine and how severe the imbalances are. The results of doing these scans on patients have proven that the presence or absence of pain or other symptoms has no bearing on the actual function or health of the body. Many symptom-free people have been scanned only to find that subluxations were indeed present in their spine.
The doctor will also palpate your spine, which means he will use his fingers to feel along your back for any muscle spasm, swelling, misalignments, and loss of spinal motion. Spinal X-rays may be taken depending on your age, and situation. To avoid needless exposure only necessary x-rays will be taken. X-rays are a common part of the examination process when looking for vertebral subluxations. X-rays give us important information including the position of the spinal bones, and the quality of the spine and safety of adjusting it. X-rays also tell us the relative length of time subluxations may have been involved in your spine. Commonly, most patients receive spinal x-rays at the beginning of care. With this important information we can make a more accurate determination of the type of adjustments your spine needs as well as the initial frequency of your care. Your x-rays will be explained to you and covered in detail with you and your significant other, typically on your next visit.
All patients are required to initially attend our "Doctor's Report" or Patient Orientation during which you will get a much clearer understanding of what chiropractic can do for you and your family. The discussion will include such topics as spinal correction and how to attain it, and how your spine relates to your problem and your health. We encourage new patients to bring anyone that might benefit from gaining more knowledge about health and healing.
Your MyoVision sEMG Scan.
How does spinal electromyography work?
Surface Electromyograph (sEMG) measures the amount of electrical activity your muscles release when they are contracting, more commonly known as muscle tension or spasming. It is similar in function to an EKG which measures heart muscle activity.
Is it painful?
Not at all. It is totally non-invasive and does not cause pain or irritation. This makes it totally safe for infants, children, pregnant women or seniors. It simply requires the placement of small probes against the skin, with the test taking less than a few minutes.
How does this relate to chiropractic?
Vertebral Subluxations reduce your body’s ability to maintain optimal health. When Vertebral Subluxations are present, the nervous system is negatively affected resulting in increases or decreases in muscle activity. The sEMG shows the muscular component of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. The Chiropractor’s job is to detect and correct these Vertebral Subluxations by a simple and effective procedure called an “adjustment”.

Why is muscle activity important?
Muscles have a tendency to “brace” in response to spinal misalignments known as Vertebral Subluxations. These Subluxations create nerve interference which affect muscles, blood vessels and internal organs.
How do chiropractic adjustments affect my sEMG?
The Chiropractic Adjustment has many positive benefits to your nervous system. In most cases, the sEMG normalizes and balances.
What do the results mean?
Colors indicate levels of tension: average are green, pink are moderately high, and red are high levels of tension.Yellow readings indicate abnormally low, or fatigued muscles. Arrows indicate an imbalance.
